2006 Cricket Dinner

This well attended event was held in The Jolly Tanners Long Room on Friday 17 Match 2006. In recognition of the fact that it was "Paddy's Day", Ron was renamed O'Bo Selector and put in his usual shrinking violet performance as MC.

Prizes flowed with the alcohol and the cameras clicked as the alluring Fiona dispensed them.

2005 Review

What a challenging and exciting year 2005 was. There were many more games played than last year and only one lost to inclement weather. There were also many more new players than ever before.

We even integrated a team of aspiring Colts who inspire their seniors to even greater efforts.

That we under achieved should not be allowed to cloud our view and none should be held to account.

( non PC version ....

We were pathetic! If we'd been horses, we'd be dog food!

We played three more, competitive, games than last year with 10 fewer players, with all but three games lost. The rained off game spared us further embarrassment.

We still managed to enjoy ourselves though. )

2004 Review

Our dysfunctional rabble of mainly Staplefieldians played 11 competitive games, winning 4 of them. Many more were close but the others were as far away as Cuckfield, Lindfield & Twineham.

We play a variety of teams including other pubs, clubs & businesses but unfortunately, as happened last year, when the opposition fails to turn up we have to play with ourselves.

Unlike professional players we are not afraid to play in bad light (the street lamp provides more than enough illumination) & rain never stops play. We wish it would but Ron's (Chairman of Selectors) enthusiasm will not be dulled, even by a little thunder & lightning.

After the games our dedication is such that we drink like Peter's forgotten the prices, again, & recount how good we were. Win or lose! After all we are a pub team.
