For many watching a game cricket is only marginally more interesting than watching algae grow. At the other extreme some consider it a 3 dimensional game of chess, played over 5 days where every dot ball demands a public enquiry.
Hopefully most of us occupy the middle ground so there's no point in prattling on about tactics, match reports, bodyline, statistics and the heresy of 'Super subs'.
Here you can read an update to the player profiles.
BATTING
Mark Waghorn was somewhat peeved (you know what I mean) that, with an average of 99, he didn't get a prize at last year's annual dinner because he'd played too few games. This year he is a man on a mission to win all the prizes.
Ron Stevenson is similarly reinvigorated and has turned from manikin to run (Ron?) machine.
Pat has not changed and is still a leg man.
Gastronomes will be pleased to know that you can get the perfect soft boiled egg by using Andrew's innings as the timer.
BOWLING
Ben, James and Nigel 'Name & Nature' Payne are currently competing for the opening bowler slot.
As Nigel is older than Ben & James combined ages and isn't taking too many wickets his denouement is an ever present threat..but as he's also exceeds their combined sizes nobody is going to tell him either.
Stu is still looking for the barn door but Gnome has taken a wicket.
FIELDING
Our best 2 catches, by some distance, have been by Phil Petersen & Rob Greenfield who are athletes honed from granite with sinews of steel.
(I did have something else written here which was censored - that's why you're not laughing & I won't need plastic surgery.)
- Beating "The Victory", a pub in Staplefield apparently, twice.
- Fans at the Cuckfield game.
- Losing to Ansty.
- Matt for volunteering
- Our borrowed Ansty Colts
- Sue for scoring.
- Too many run outs. They know who they are!.
- Geoff & Brian (G) who play better for their works team than for us.
- Sue when she bends.
Elsewhere in Common Interests you'll find the flier for our trip to London.
If you're interested please leave your name and money at the bar.
